Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow at Saminaro is a breath-led practice where every movement rides on the inhale or exhale. Classes run 60 to 75 minutes in our Exhibition Street studio, capped at twelve people so the teacher can actually walk the room and fix your chaturanga instead of watching from the front.
Come as you are. We lend mats, blocks and straps, and the teacher offers modifications for knees, wrists and lower backs throughout the class.
- Mats, blocks and straps included at no cost
- Twelve-person cap, so nobody gets lost at the back
- Beginner-friendly options in every sequence
A practice that builds heat, then lets it go
A typical Vinyasa Flow class starts slow with joint mobilisation, builds through standing sequences that raise your heart rate, then settles into hip openers and a long savasana. We sequence around the breath rather than counting reps, so the pace adapts to how the room is actually breathing that evening.
Teachers plan each class fresh rather than recycling a fixed routine. You will notice sequences repeat in themes across a month, which is deliberate: repeating shapes is how your body learns them.
Build real upper-body strength
Chaturanga, plank holds and arm balances are taught in stages. You will learn to lower with control instead of dropping onto your shoulders.
Open hips and shoulders safely
We spend serious time on hip and shoulder mobility, using blocks and straps so you are stretching tissue, not forcing joints into end range.
Learn to pace yourself
New students often hold their breath through hard sequences. We coach ujjayi breathing until it becomes automatic, which changes how the whole class feels.
Nine years of teaching, not nine months
Our flow teachers hold 500-hour certifications and log a minimum of forty teaching hours a month. Several trained in Mysore and Bali before settling in Melbourne, and all of them still practise regularly with their own teachers. We hire for teaching skill, not for how good someone looks in a handstand photo.
The studio opened with three flow classes a week and a rented room above a Collins Street cafe.
Live-streamed classes kept the community connected while Melbourne was locked down, and shaped how we teach sequencing today.
We expanded the Exhibition Street space to two rooms and added an early 6:15am flow before the city wakes up.

From the door to savasana
Every flow class follows the same arc, though the shapes inside it change week to week.
Arrive and settle
Come in ten minutes early, grab a mat and tell the teacher about any injuries. The room stays quiet so people can land before we start.
Warm the joints
We start with cat-cow, wrist rolls and gentle spinal waves. Nothing intense yet, just getting synovial fluid moving through the joints.
Sun salutations
Three to five rounds of Surya Namaskar A and B, linked to breath. The teacher demos the first round, then walks the room.
Standing sequence
Warriors, triangle, side angle and balance poses in a flowing order. Each side gets built up gradually rather than dumped on you at once.
Peak pose and cool down
One focus shape per class, whether that's crow, half moon or a deep twist. Then we drop to the floor for hip openers and forward folds.
Savasana
Seven to ten minutes lying still with a blanket. Phones stay out of the room. This is the part that actually settles your nervous system.
The room you'll be practising in
Warm timber floors, natural light through the north windows and enough space between mats that you are not elbowing anyone.
Things people ask before their first flow
If your question is not here, ring the studio during reception hours or send an email. A real person answers, not a chatbot.
